Comedy Writing Course

This four week course will be a combination of instruction and writing exercises designed to unleash your inner comedian. Learn the basics of gag-writing, stringing jokes together, mining a subject for laughs, and writing comedy in various forms. Topics covered will include the Structure of a Joke, Cartoons and Captioning, the Humorous Essay, Stand-Up Comedy Writing, Sketch Comedy, Basics of Sit-Com Writing, and Inserting Comedy into Speeches. Writing for Children

This four week course will explore the various categories, markets, and techniques in writing for children. The course will be a combination of lecture, exercises, and peer review of writing samples. We will look at the current market trends, and some of the current bestsellers and classics of children's literature. Students will be encouraged to write in the genre they are most comfortable in, be it fiction, non-fiction, long form or short. Bring a pen, an imagination and step into the wonderful world of writing for an audience of children!

Graphic Novel Writing Project – Create a Full Script

This course will cover the basics for writing and scripting graphic novels. There will be 4 sessions with instruction and writing exercises. Students will be expected to work on their scripts in between sessions and be prepared for peer review of their work. The goal of the course is to create an industry standard 22 page script in a subject of the student's choosing! No prior graphic novel writing experience necessary. Graphic Novel Writing Workshop

This general survey of writing for graphic novels will include instruction on script formats, the elements of graphic novel “language”, and things to include and avoid while constructing a graphic novel. Other topics covered will include working with artists, working with editors, plotting, characterization, and thematic story constructions. There will be two writing exercises with peer review covering the creation of believable characters with powerful dialog, and creating a classical plot structure.

CARTOON ANATOMY

Cartoon Anatomy is the basic 4 week course that will teach working lines and simple shapes, creating the foundation of character design, form, gesture, expression and a couple sneaky "tricks" we've learned along the way. Courses include our "Free Lunch" named after our comic company and studio. That will be pizza (purchased from our neighbors at New England Pizza (which is awesome)) and soft drinks, served before this class.
